Proception, the robotics startup founded by former Tesla Optimus engineer Jay Li, announced the resolution of a year‑long trade‑secret dispute with Tesla and the close of an ↑ 11M seed round led by First Round Capital.

What the Tesla Optimus engineer is building: dexterous robotic hands

The infusion will fund the production of high‑dexterity manipulators that researchers say outperform existing prototypes. Proception’s first batch is already en route to university labs, where scientists plan to test grip precision on delicate components.

“We are delivering a hand that can match, and eventually exceed, human tactile acuity,” Jay Li told Reuters.

Tesla’s own Optimus project continues to grapple with the complexity of fine motor control, a gap Proception aims to exploit. By commercialising the technology, the startup hopes to secure contracts in aerospace, medical devices, and advanced manufacturing.

Analysts at Bloomberg note that the ↑ 11M capital raise positions Proception to scale production within 12 months, a timeline that could pressure incumbent robotics firms.
