Taylor Farms salad recall forces Walmart to withdraw four Marketside salads

Walmart announced Saturday that it has removed four bagged iceberg‑lettuce salads bearing the Marketside brand after the Taylor Farms salad recall widened amid a cyclospora outbreak. The retailer said no confirmed illnesses have been linked to the items sold at select stores, but acted preemptively following a supplier alert.

“We are actively removing the implicated products,” a Taylor Farms spokesperson told Reuters. The company halted shipments from the affected Mexican lot and is cooperating with the CDC and FDA.

Since the outbreak was traced to a lettuce supplier for Midwest Taco Bell locations, investigations have expanded to cover 27 states ↑ 27. Michigan leads with ↓ 5,000 reported cases, according to the CDC, though the tally may rise as labs confirm results.

“Identifying the product’s country of origin provides a traceability data point, but it does not in itself confirm that the contamination occurred within Mexican territory,” a Mexican health ministry official said.

Walmart emphasized that its broader produce aisle remains unaffected, yet analysts warn that repeated removals could suppress summer sales of fresh greens for weeks.
