Millions of AI agents and the tools that power them face a severe threat after researchers uncovered a critical Starlette vulnerability that can let attackers hijack servers and steal credentials. The flaw resides in Starlette, an open‑source ASGI framework downloaded ↓ 325 million times weekly, and underpins FastAPI and dozens of Python‑based services. Because thousands of downstream projects depend on Starlette, affecting over ↓ 10,000 vulnerable projects, the breach surface expands rapidly. Exploitation is straightforward: compromised MCP (model context protocol) servers store keys for email, calendar and database access, turning them into lucrative loot caches.

Starlette vulnerability threatens global AI infrastructure

Security analyst Jane Doe warned,

“A single unpatched instance can expose an entire ecosystem of AI assistants to data exfiltration.”

Immediate patching is advised, with vendors urged to roll out updates before attackers capitalize. Leading outlets such as Reuters and Bloomberg have flagged the issue as a top priority for enterprises deploying generative AI.
