Reuters reported that senior adviser Chris Klomp now acts as Kennedy’s de facto chief of staff, steering a pivot toward drug‑price negotiations.

“He promised independence, yet he spent the months chasing anti‑vax agendas,” Sen. Ron Wyden (D‑OR) warned during a pre‑hearing briefing.

While Kennedy will tout “historic wins”—including deals with ↑ 16 pharma firms to curb prices and new dietary guidelines centered on whole foods—he conspicuously omits the word “vaccine” from his opening remarks.

Senate Health Chair Bill Cassidy (R‑LA) remains tight‑lipped, hinting at a fraught primary battle with a Trump‑backed challenger. Appropriations subcommittee chair Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R‑WV) said she will seek assurances that NIH and substance‑abuse grants continue flowing, after the administration’s recent cuts.

As midterms loom, the hearing may expose how many GOP members view Kennedy as a political liability.
