After weeks of stalemate, Israel announced it would permit civilians to traverse a previously sealed military zone, prompting a mass foot migration.

Palestinians stream back to northern Gaza

Tens of thousands have already begun the trek, some carrying only essential supplies. Humanitarian groups warn that the corridor remains vulnerable to sporadic shelling, according to AP News. Security forces stationed at the checkpoint report a steady flow, while the United Nations estimates ↓ 10,000 people remain trapped in the south.

“The opening of the route is a modest but necessary step,” said a spokesperson for Reuters.

The move follows the breakthrough in hostage negotiations that ended a deadlock, allowing displaced families to head north in hopes of reuniting with relatives. Analysts caution that without sustained aid, the influx could strain already scarce resources in the northern districts.
