Salamanca City Central in upstate New York has begun a pilot that puts robot teachers into summer school classrooms, partnering with Toronto‑based Realbotix to field a humanoid unit named Sally.

The AI assistant, branded Optio, sits at a desk, processes natural language, reads facial cues and offers 24/7 homework help. Students swipe their ID, prompting Sally to retrieve personalized progress data.

Realbotix, formerly Tokens.com, rebranded after acquiring RealDoll in 2024 and now markets the M‑Series line as “hyper‑realistic” companions. The company claims the robot’s safety guardrails are tuned for education.

“This partnership gives all students controlled, equitable access to safe and powerful AI resources while fostering learning — not replacing it,” district superintendent Mark Beehler said.
