Lebanon ceasefire on shaky ground as Trump drives Iran negotiations

Israel announced it is “deepening its operation” in Lebanon, a move that threatens the fragile Lebanon ceasefire brokered last month. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made the statement on Tuesday, underscoring escalating hostilities along the border.

Lebanon ceasefire under pressure amid US diplomatic push

At the same time, former President Donald Trump is intensifying pressure on Washington to secure a broader Iran nuclear agreement, a strategy that critics say could destabilize the already tense front. Analysts warn that linking the ceasefire to a separate Iran deal risks drawing regional actors into a wider confrontation.

“Any slip in Lebanon could trigger a chain reaction across the Levant,” warned a senior official cited by Reuters.

Casualties have risen, with the latest reports tallying ↓ 12 deaths in the past 48 hours alone. The United Nations is urging both sides to respect the truce, but the diplomatic calculus in Washington, highlighted by Bloomberg, suggests a hardening stance.
