Strait of Hormuz under renewed Iranian control

Iran has re‑imposed strict oversight of the Strait of Hormuz after IRGC‑linked gunboats opened fire on at least three merchant vessels on Saturday, maritime monitors reported. UKMTO logged an un‑challenged barrage on a tanker 20 miles north of Oman, followed by a separate strike that hit a container ship with an unknown projectile. Reuters and other sources say an Indian‑flagged carrier was also struck.

U.S. naval blockade stays in place

The U.S. Central Command confirmed that its forces continue to enforce the naval blockade, with ↓ 23 ships ordered to turn back since the operation began. Helicopters hover over the waterway, offering a visible presence to safeguard navigation.

“We will not be blackmailed,” President Donald Trump told reporters, hinting at a possible second round of negotiations.

Iran’s supreme leader nuclear rhetoric warned of “bitter defeats” if the U.S. does not lift the embargo, prompting Tehran to label the blockade a breach of the cease‑fire and to halt the conditional reopening of the waterway.

Oil market tremors

The brief reopening on Friday sent crude prices tumbling, yet the renewed closure threatens to choke a route that moves ↓ 20% of the world’s oil, likely pushing prices upward again.
