Paris health authorities confirmed on Tuesday that a French physician returning from a humanitarian mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo has tested positive for Ebola. The doctor, whose identity is being protected, is in a specialized isolation unit and remains stable. The case arrives as the outbreak on the continent has already crossed the ↓ 1,000 mark, according to the World Health Organization, potentially eclipsing previous records. Experts warn that the virus’s spread could strain already fragile health systems.

“We are mobilising all available resources to contain this virus,” said a spokesperson for the French Ministry of Health.

The French response mirrors a broader European push to reinforce surveillance at airports and to accelerate vaccine distribution. Reuters reported that neighboring Belgium and Germany have already dispatched additional medical teams. The situation underscores the urgency of global coordination, as the disease’s mortality rate remains high and treatment options limited.
