Ebola quarantine center plans spark controversy

The Trump administration announced on Wednesday that a dedicated Ebola quarantine center will be erected in Nairobi, Kenya, to house American citizens exposed to the virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Critics argue that isolating patients abroad undermines domestic treatment capacity and may delay repatriation.

“Leaving Americans overseas while the outbreak spreads at home is a dangerous gamble,” said a senior public‑health expert.

The facility, slated to accommodate ↓ 2 patients at a time, will feature a 21‑day observation ward and on‑site medical staff. Reuters reported that the move follows a series of diplomatic tensions over travel bans. Meanwhile, Bloomberg noted that the U.S. has already allocated ↑ 1 million dollars for construction and logistics. Opposition lawmakers have filed a request for a congressional review, warning that the policy could set a precedent for future health crises. The White House maintains the strategy protects both the American public and the fragile health infrastructure in the DRC.
