US doctor contracted Ebola arrives in Germany

American physician Dr. Peter Stafford, who fell ill while treating patients in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was evacuated aboard a chartered aircraft to a German university clinic for advanced supportive care. His wife and four children accompany him under strict observation, as health officials monitor them for any signs of infection. The World Health Organization has warned that the scale and speed of the current outbreak demand a coordinated international response. Authorities in the DRC have recorded ↓ 134 suspected deaths and ↓ 500 probable cases of the Bundibugyo strain, a hemorrhagic virus with no approved vaccine.

“We are mobilising every available resource to contain the spread,” a spokesperson told Reuters.

The German team, equipped with experimental antivirals, will also support the family’s quarantine protocol. This episode reignites debate over global readiness, echoing lessons from the recent pandemic and underscoring the need for rapid cross‑border medical logistics.
