When asked at the Norges Bank Investment Management forum what now haunts the world’s largest bank chief, JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon answered without hesitation: cyber risk.

Cyber Risk Emerges as Top Threat

Dimon warned that malicious actors are sharpening their digital arsenals, exploiting AI breakthroughs such as Anthropic’s Claude Mythos, a model whose leak sparked a ↓ 12% plunge in software equities.

“The bad guys can use cyber, and they’re going to get stronger and more powerful in finding vulnerabilities,” Dimon said during the live podcast.

Anthropic disclosed a “highly sophisticated espionage campaign” likely tied to a Chinese state‑sponsored group, confirming that advanced language models can be weaponised for espionage.

While geopolitical flashpoints – Ukraine, Iran and NATO cohesion – remain on Dimon’s radar, he stressed that fragmentation would hand the West to adversaries. He urged allies to tighten economic and military ties to blunt the cyber onslaught.

Industry observers echo the alarm. In 2023 Bill Gates warned that AI could amplify cyber attacks, create biological threats and jeopardise national security. Recent market data from Reuters shows AI‑linked stocks down ↓ 8% since the Mythos leak, while Bloomberg reports heightened investment in defensive cybersecurity solutions.
