Recent disclosures by a security researcher have put four Linux kernel exploit scripts in the wild, each granting a local user full root privileges.

Linux kernel exploit reveals four local‑root flaws

The patches for all four CVEs landed in the mainline kernel within weeks, meaning any system running a current release is safe. However, the public exploit code now poses a tangible threat to legacy installations that have not been updated. Administrators are urged to verify kernel versions promptly; the risk of a privilege escalation attack has surged.

“Unpatched machines are effectively sitting ducks,” said a senior analyst at Reuters.

The vulnerabilities affect kernels older than ↓ 5.10, and the exploit code is straightforward to compile and run. Bloomberg notes that many embedded devices still ship with outdated kernels, amplifying exposure. Updating to the latest stable kernel eliminates the danger entirely.
