Vercel breach highlights third‑party AI risk

Web‑hosting platform Vercel disclosed a breach that let attackers infiltrate certain internal systems. The intrusion originated from a compromised account of Context.ai, an AI service used by a Vercel employee. The hacker seized the employee’s Google Workspace credentials, then leveraged them to access Vercel’s internal network.

“The attacker moved laterally after taking control of the Google account,” a Vercel spokesperson told Reuters.

Initial analysis suggests the exposure affected roughly ↓ 100 customer credentials, though the full scope remains under review. Vercel has reset affected accounts and is tightening third‑party integration policies. Security experts warn that reliance on external AI tools can create attack vectors, as noted by Bloomberg.
