Xbox cloud gaming will soon operate under a strict session ceiling, a shift tied to the tier of a Game Pass subscription. Starting November, users on the Ultimate tier will receive ↓ 5% less playtime per session than previously enjoyed, while Core members face an even tighter cap.

Xbox cloud gaming time limit announced

The move, detailed in a blog post, signals Microsoft’s effort to curb rising operational costs. Analysts at Reuters note that streaming infrastructure expenses have surged, prompting the “cost‑containment” measure.

“We’re recalibrating benefits to sustain the long‑term health of Game Pass,” a Microsoft spokesperson told Bloomberg.

Critics argue that cloud gaming was a marquee advantage of the service; trimming it could erode subscriber growth, especially as rivals expand their own streaming portfolios.
