WHO confirmed that as of May 8 eight hantavirus infections have been recorded, three of which proved fatal. The agency stresses the ↓ 3 deaths underscore a limited threat compared with past pandemics.

The organization says the virus does not pose a pandemic‑level danger and that the overall risk remains low. Reuters reported the cases are scattered across several regions, with no sign of sustained community transmission.

"We are monitoring the situation closely, but there is no evidence that hantavirus will become a global crisis," a WHO spokesperson told reporters.

Health officials are urged to maintain vigilance, especially in rural areas where rodent exposure is common. The ↓ 8 cases reported so far are being investigated, and containment measures are in place.
