U.S.-Iran peace deal inches toward signature

A senior State Department source told reporters that Washington and Tehran have reached a verbal accord to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and to require Iran to dismantle its stock of highly enriched uranium. Negotiators caution that a formal document remains pending, and final wording could stretch over several days.

“We are close, but the ink has not yet dried,” the official said.

Analysts note that reopening the Hormuz corridor could ease global oil flows, potentially trimming crude prices ↓ 2% in the next week. The deal also echoes broader diplomatic overtures seen after the pandemic reshaped regional strategies.
