The White House says a one‑page U.S.-Iran memorandum could end hostilities within days, as officials await Tehran’s response on core demands. Negotiators expect answers on enrichment, sanctions and Strait of Hormuz access within 48 hours.

Key Provisions on the Table

Iran would impose a moratorium on uranium enrichment lasting ↑ 12 years, while the United States would lift sanctions and free billions of dollars in frozen assets. Both sides would relax restrictions on commercial traffic through the strategic waterway.

“We are close, but internal divisions in Tehran make a final deal uncertain,” a senior U.S. official told Reuters.

The draft memo contains 14 points, including a 30‑day window for detailed talks in Islamabad or Geneva. Should talks falter, the U.S. reserves the right to reinstate a naval blockade.

Iran initially offered a ↓ 5‑year moratorium, far short of Washington’s 20‑year target. The agreement would also bind Tehran to forgo weaponization and allow unannounced UN inspections, linking any breach to an extended moratorium.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that “some of Iran’s top leaders are insane in the brain,” casting doubt on political will. Yet the administration cites President Trump’s recent restraint in the Strait as evidence of progress.
