The detection emerged from routine testing of poultry in New South Wales, prompting immediate quarantine measures. Scientists say the virus poses a risk to both bird populations and, in rare instances, human health.

“We are mobilising all resources to contain the outbreak,” the minister said, citing protocols aligned with Reuters.

To date, ↓ 1 confirmed case has been recorded, with no human infections reported. Authorities warn that vigilance remains essential as the virus can mutate.
