President Donald Trump stands at a critical crossroads as an 8pm ET deadline approaches for a decision that could reshape the Middle East: launch devastating strikes on Iran’s infrastructure or extend negotiations for a diplomatic breakthrough. The White House has warned that failure to reach a deal will trigger “Infrastructure Day” – a coordinated military campaign targeting every bridge and power plant in Iran within four hours. “The entire country could be taken out in one night,” Trump declared during Monday’s press conference, while simultaneously expressing openness to continued talks. Mediators from Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey are working urgently to broker amendments to Iran’s “maximalist” 10-point response delivered Monday. A senior administration official told Axios that Trump alone will make the final call, though internal divisions persist. The president’s negotiating team, including Vice President JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, advocates for pursuing a deal if possible. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and regional allies push for tougher conditions, including Iran’s relinquishment of highly enriched uranium and reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Defense officials remain “skeptical” about another deadline extension, while White House deputy press secretary Anna Kelly emphasized that only Trump’s team has visibility into the sensitive diplomatic conversations. “If it is not [a deal], the country’s energy sites and bridges will be hit harder than anyone thought possible,” Kelly stated. Two sources confirmed that a massive U.S.-Israeli bombing campaign targeting Iran’s energy facilities stands ready for immediate execution should Trump give the order. “Trump would take a deal if he got one, but it’s unclear if the Iranians are ready. It will be extremely tense until Tuesday at 8pm,” a U.S. source close to the president said. The administration has begun sounding out advisors about “Infrastructure Day,” asking their views on the controversial strike plan. Trump’s hawkish stance reportedly exceeds even that of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with one official describing the president as “the most bloodthirsty, like a mad dog.” Iran’s slow decision-making process, complicated by security concerns that force leaders to communicate through intermediaries, has frustrated U.S. negotiators. Trump noted during his press conference that Iranian leaders must use children to pass notes back and forth due to communication restrictions. The coming hours will determine whether diplomacy prevails or the region faces its most severe military escalation in years.
