President Donald Trump has once again altered his Trump surgeon general nominee lineup, pulling Casey Means from consideration and naming breast radiologist Nicole B. Saphier as the next candidate. Means, a Stanford‑trained physician and vocal “Make America Health Again” influencer, faced a stalled Senate hearing chaired by Sen. Bill Cassidy, who expressed doubts over her vaccine stance and licensure status.

The decision follows a contentious Thursday on social media, where Trump lambasted Cassidy for delaying Means’ confirmation and announced Saphier, a Fox News contributor and founder of an herbal supplement firm known for questioning vaccines. Reuters reported that Saphier holds a medical degree but, like Means, does not maintain an active clinical license, raising concerns about her eligibility to serve as the nation’s top medical officer.

“I’m confident Nicole Saphier will bring a fresh perspective to public health,” Trump wrote in a post.

Republican senators remain divided; some argue that a nominee without a current license ↓ 1 undermines the credibility of the Office of the Surgeon General, while others point to her media experience as an asset in combating vaccine hesitancy. AP News noted that the Senate HELP Committee is expected to schedule a new hearing in the coming weeks.
