President Donald Trump told reporters Saturday that Trump new strikes Iran could be ordered if Tehran “misbehaves,” adding the option remains on the table.

Trump new strikes Iran: Potential Military Escalation

The White House is juggling a draft framework aimed at ending the maritime standoff while the commander of CENTCOM, Adm. Brad Cooper, briefed the president on fresh strike plans. Cooper departed for the region before meeting troops aboard the USS Tripoli in the Arabian Sea.

Iran on Thursday delivered a ↓ 14-point updated proposal that sets a ↑ 1-month deadline to negotiate reopening the Strait of Hormuz, lifting the U.S. naval blockade, and ending hostilities in Iran and Lebanon. Only after that window would a second month be opened to discuss the nuclear program.

“If they misbehave, if they do something bad — but right now, we’ll see,” Trump said when asked about fresh strikes.

Trump said Friday he was not satisfied with the draft, yet on Saturday, while en route from Palm Beach to Miami, he promised to review the exact wording. “I’m looking at it. I’ll let you know later,” he told the press.

Later on his Truth Social feed, Trump wrote that Iran “has not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to humanity over the last 47 years,” and he could not imagine the deal being acceptable.

Analysts at Reuters and Bloomberg note that the president’s rhetoric adds pressure to a fragile negotiation process, risking a rapid escalation in a region already on edge.
