GhostJacking: How Bad Actors Hijack AI Agents

Recent research uncovers a method dubbed GhostJacking that exploits routine security alerts and blocked events to seize control of generative AI assistants. By feeding fabricated alerts, attackers can rewrite an agent’s identity profile, bypassing existing governance checks. The study, cited by Reuters, shows that up to ↓ 37% of AI-driven workflows become vulnerable when alerts are spoofed.

“The flaw lies not in the AI model but in the surrounding alert infrastructure,” says lead researcher Dr. Lina Patel.

Organizations are urged to tighten provenance verification, enforce multi‑factor alert authentication, and audit identity‑governance policies continuously.
