Trump Iran proposal sparks fresh deadlock

President Donald Trump told reporters on Friday that he is “not satisfied” with the latest Iran proposal delivered through Pakistani mediators, leaving the fragile three‑week ceasefire hanging by a thread. “They want to make a deal, I’m not satisfied with it, so we’ll see what happen,” he said, refusing to detail the sticking points.

The United States and Tehran continue to blame each other for minor violations, while a U.S. naval blockade chokes the Strait of Hormuz, a conduit for global oil trade. Reuters reports that Iran’s foreign minister has been lobbying regional partners, including Turkey and Saudi Arabia, to revive talks.

“It’s a very disjointed leadership,” Trump added, characterising Iran’s ruling elite as fractured.

Casualties mount: an accidental explosion near Zanjan killed ↓ 14 Revolutionary Guard members, the highest toll since the ceasefire began on April 7. Since the conflict erupted on Feb. 28, official counts show ↓ 3,375 Iranian deaths and over 2,600 Lebanese fatalities, according to local authorities.

Washington has floated a new plan to reopen the strait for Gulf allies, while Tehran’s Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi was rushed to hospital after a severe cardiac episode, a development highlighted by her foundation. AP News

Negotiations now proceed by phone after Trump scrapped a planned envoy trip to Pakistan. The next move hinges on whether Tehran will amend its demands, a question that remains unanswered.
