Amid the World Cup frenzy, the Topgolf CEO David McKillips is positioning his chain as the unlikely cradle for golf’s next prodigy. He unveiled a $5‑a‑day youth program and pledged to add ↑10 million new golfers by 2030, arguing that a future tour champion could first grip a club in a Topgolf bay rather than a private club. “I’d love to see a Topgolf‑bred player on the PGA Tour,” he told Reuters. The initiative, in partnership with Youth on Course, offers subsidized bay access from July 1 to Sept 3, with clubs, balls and tech supplied at no extra charge. McKillips, who steered Chuck E Cheese out of Chapter 11, is applying the same turnaround playbook: upgrade venues, inject data‑rich experiences and broaden the entertainment menu to include darts, pickleball and arcade games.

Topgolf CEO highlights growth in youth and women participation

Recent figures show a ↑40% rise in youth attendance over five years and women now represent 28% of all golfers, according to the National Golf Foundation. The company logs 42 million guest visits annually, creating an ecosystem of nearly 100 million golf touchpoints when simulators are added. Its proprietary Toptracer tech, the same data feed that powers televised majors, is embedded in every bay, turning casual parties into data‑driven practice sessions. “You don’t have to be a golfer to walk in,” McKillips said, noting the venue’s bar, lounge and arcade options. As the firm expands globally, the CEO stresses that affordability and social appeal are the twin levers dismantling golf’s historic barriers.

“If you can swing a club in a bay, you’re already in the game,” he added.

Correction: An earlier version misstated the youth program start date; it begins July 1, not June 1.
