Employers warn that losing this labor pool could cripple home‑care services, nursing homes and building projects. Reuters reports that the Department of Homeland Security has not clarified whether designations for El Salvador (170,000) and Ukraine (101,000) will be automatically extended, leaving the fate of those communities in limbo. “It is a moral question for the United States,” asserts Jose Palma of the National TPS Alliance, noting that many TPS families have U.S. citizen children and have contributed to the economy for over two decades. The White House counters that TPS has become “a de facto amnesty program” and that restoring its original temporary purpose will protect American workers, a claim challenged by labor leaders who call for legislative relief.
