South Korea memory chip production gets $1 trillion boost

South Korean President Lee Jae‑Myung announced a $1 trillion fund to lock in dominance over AI hardware. The initiative couples massive DRAM expansion, AI‑centric data centers and the mass production of humanoid robots from Hyundai’s Boston Dynamics unit. Samsung and SK Hynix, fresh from record earnings, are set to channel ↑ $30 billion in capex into next‑generation memory lines, while the robotics arm targets a ↑ 15 % rise in unit output by 2028.

“We must secure the core elements of AI faster than any other country,” President Lee told the nation, as reported by Reuters and Bloomberg.

Analysts see the triple‑axis strategy—semiconductors, physical AI, and data centers—as a decisive move to alleviate global memory shortages that have driven consumer‑electronics prices upward. Hyundai aims to replace repetitive assembly tasks with humanoid assistants, promising a new era of efficiency in auto factories and beyond.
