The House narrowly approved a concurrent resolution Thursday that would bar any further U.S. military action in Iran without explicit congressional authorization. Four GOP lawmakers joined Democrats, pushing the measure past the 214‑208 threshold.

The vote marks a rare bipartisan rebuke of President Donald Trump’s ongoing campaign, coming after ↓ 12 American service members have died and energy prices have surged. Rep. Thomas Massie (R‑KY) led the Republican dissent, followed by Brian Fitzpatrick (R‑PA), Tom Barrett (R‑MI) and Warren Davidson (R‑OH).

“This is a vote that requires us to find the strength to do what is right for the American people,” Rep. Pramila Jayapal said, urging Congress to reassert its war‑making authority.

Senate leader Sen. Susan Collins (R‑ME) broke with her party, becoming the sole GOP senator to advance the companion resolution, while Reuters noted the measure carries no legal force. President Trump dismissed the House action as “meaningless” and “unpatriotic,” posting on his platform. The four Republicans have faced public rebukes from the White House, yet they argue constitutional limits are non‑negotiable. Bloomberg reports that congressional support for curbing the war has risen, with a ↑ 3% increase in GOP members expressing concern over the conflict’s duration. The resolution remains symbolic, but its passage underscores growing fissures within the Republican ranks over the Iran campaign.
