President Trump has hinted at resuming strikes if a naval blockade fails to coerce Tehran, targeting infrastructure he warned about before the ceasefire was announced.

“We are not in a complete deadlock. The door is not closed yet. Both sides are bargaining. It’s a bazaar,” the source said.

A U.S. official echoed the sentiment, adding that flexibility from Tehran and acceptance of the Islamabad proposal could seal a pact.

Key sticking points

The 21‑hour session in Pakistan stalled over Iran’s uranium enrichment freeze and the release of frozen assets. Washington demands a halt to enrichment and surrender of highly‑enriched uranium (↑ 1,200 kg), while Tehran seeks the release of ↓ $2.5 bn in frozen funds.

Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi claimed the parties were “inches away” before the U.S. shifted its demands, a claim not corroborated by U.S. officials.

Turkish and Egyptian foreign ministers held separate calls with their Pakistani counterpart, then spoke to White House envoy Steve Witkoff and Araghchi, according to sources.

Vice President JD Vance, leading the U.S. team, met Iranian officials in Islamabad. He described the dialogue as “tough” yet “friendly and productive” and left the door ajar for Tehran’s return.

U.S. Central Command announced the blockade will start Monday at 10 a.m. ET, enforcing it impartially on all vessels entering or leaving Iranian ports while preserving free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz Reuters.
