Institutional investors are allocating record capital to private credit even as traditional markets wobble. Data from Reuters shows inflows of ↑ $12.4bn in the first half of 2026, dwarfing the ↓ 7% drop in retail bond purchases.

Why private credit remains a magnet for big investors

Fund managers cite higher yields and tighter covenants as buffers against volatility. Senior analysts argue that the asset class offers diversification that is hard to replicate elsewhere.

“The shift reflects a strategic rebalancing toward assets that can generate stable cash flow,” said a senior portfolio director.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg notes that the surge is concentrated in North America and Europe, where credit facilities are expanding to meet corporate demand. The trend suggests that private credit could reshape capital allocation patterns for years to come.
