Andre Cronje of Flying Tulip argues that circuit breakers can buy critical response time when protocols face sudden outflows, suggesting the tool could prevent cascade failures.

Circuit breakers in DeFi

He warned that without such safeguards, the sector may no longer resemble its original decentralized ethos.

“If we don’t act now, we risk turning DeFi into a lottery,” Cronje said.

Curve founder Michael Egorov counters that imposing circuit breakers could create fresh human vulnerabilities, as users might game the pause mechanisms.

Recent data show protocols experienced ↓ 12% outflows last week, yet some analysts predict a ↑ 8% liquidity rebound once safeguards are in place.

According to Reuters, the debate reflects broader uncertainty about how much governance can intervene without eroding trust.
