College graduates unemployment rate remains the lowest among U.S. workers 25 and older, according to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics release. Fresh figures show a ↑ 2.8% unemployment rate for those with a bachelor’s degree, versus 6.4% for high‑school dropouts.

College Graduates Unemployment Rate Beats All Education Levels

The gap has persisted for two decades. In 2006, the rate for non‑diploma holders was 6.9% compared with 2.2% for degree holders; today the differential is still more than double.

“A degree still offers the most reliable buffer against joblessness,” says a senior analyst at Reuters.

Yet the narrative on social media paints a bleaker picture. Viral TikTok clips lament sky‑high rent, student debt, and stagnant wages, while celebrating trade‑skill millionaires and AI‑driven startups.

Why the Advantage Persists

Employers continue to use academic credentials as a screening tool. Even as tech giants publicly drop degree requirements, hiring managers often revert to the traditional filter, according to Bloomberg.

Salary data underscores the premium: bachelor’s holders earn roughly ↑ 66% more weekly than high‑school graduates, and positions paying $200,000+ almost always demand advanced degrees.

In short, while the romance of the degree may be fading, the statistical edge endures, keeping graduates firmly on the employment safety net.
