The Netflix prequel Berlin reaches its climax in the episode titled “The Lady with an Ermine,” where a seemingly simple art theft morphs into a two‑fold robbery that topples a aristocrat’s entire financial web.

Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine: The Double Heist Explained

Duke Alvaro Hermoso de Medina commissions the theft of Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, using the painting as bait to keep Berlin under his watchful eye. Alvaro is not a victim; he engineers the job, shaping every security layer to observe Berlin’s moves.

Inside Alvaro’s Seville estate, Berlin discovers a concealed underground vault brimming with stolen art and ↑ $75 million in cash. The vault’s fire‑based defense ignites a ring of flames that suffocates intruders, forcing the crew to split duties: one team continues the façade theft, the other extracts the vault’s riches.

“We’re not here for a painting; we’re here to erase his empire,” Berlin whispers to his crew.

Internal tensions flare when Damian questions the morality of the job, Candela’s romance with Berlin diverts focus, and Genoveva, Alvaro’s wife, feeds insider intel. These entanglements heighten risk but also grant access to the private quarters where the vault lies.

The Professor, operating from afar, feeds Berlin strategic cues that turn the operation into a systematic dismantling of Alvaro’s illegal network. Evidence collected during the raid ensures that even if Alvaro salvages some assets, legal exposure will cripple any resurgence.

After the vault is emptied and the painting is anonymously returned to its museum, Berlin marries Candela, while Damian and Genoveva depart together, leaving Alvaro bereft of wealth, art, and family. The bodyguard Samuel, who could have halted the plot, stays silent, his loyalty eroded by Alvaro’s cold obsession.
