The United States’ re‑imposed naval blockade has left Iran oil exports in a stranglehold, even as neighboring Gulf producers prepare to lift output sharply.

Iran oil exports under pressure as Gulf rivals boost shipments

Satellite data confirm that Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates are using a covert “dark” fleet to move crude via ship‑to‑ship transfers. Independent trackers estimate these clandestine moves total ↓ 7 million barrels per day, far short of the pre‑war 20 million bpd level, but enough to keep global markets from a free‑fall.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia appears poised to add a further ↑ 5 million bpd to regional exports, with tanker formations observed on both sides of the Strait of Hormuz. Reuters notes that the kingdom’s offshore assets are being pre‑positioned for rapid shuttle service.

“We must eliminate the perception that the United States can impose a blockade at will,” said Majidreza Hariri, head of the Iran‑China Joint Chamber of Commerce, speaking to Bloomberg. “Whether through negotiation, threats, or force, Tehran will act to restore its oil flow.”

U.S. forces are also feeling the strain. The carrier USS Abraham Lincoln has logged a record‑long deployment, with crew morale and supply lines under stress. Analysts warn that depleted interceptor stocks factored into President Trump’s decision to pause a larger escalation.

In this tense equilibrium, oil prices hover within a narrow band, but any misstep could trigger a rapid swing. Iranian missile upgrades that better evade air defenses increase the risk to regional infrastructure, while the United States grapples with maintaining a costly maritime seal.
