Congo Ebola outbreak: fastest spread on record

The Congo Ebola outbreak has surged to a death toll of ↓ 2,000 and an estimated ↓ 5,000 cases, according to the latest Reuters report. Remote villages remain cut off as rebel activity, crumbling roads and payment‑related work stoppages thwart vaccine teams.

“We are witnessing an unprecedented escalation,” said a WHO spokesperson.

Health officials warn that without swift logistical support, the contagion could eclipse previous African outbreaks. International donors are scrambling, but bureaucratic delays risk further loss of life. WHO urges immediate scaling of surveillance and treatment capacity.
