Potential Shift in Fed meetings Schedule

Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh floated a proposal to trim the calendar of Fed meetings during the latest FOMC session, according to a Reuters report. The suggestion, raised in a closed‑door gathering, would lower the current eight‑meeting cadence that culminates in a two‑day policy conference.

Implications for Monetary Policy

Investors have already expressed frustration at Warsh’s reluctance to provide forward guidance after the ↓ 9‑3 vote to keep rates unchanged last Wednesday. The lack of a clear stance on future hikes intensifies scrutiny as the Fed battles persistent price pressures.

“I believe the statute requires a minimum of four meetings, but four is not enough,” Warsh told the Senate in April.

The chair also hinted at curbing post‑decision press briefings and has launched five task forces to review communication, data usage, and balance‑sheet operations. Past crises, such as the pandemic onset in 2020, saw the Fed convene emergency sessions, underscoring the flexibility built into its procedural rules.

Under current guidelines, the committee must meet at least four times a year, with additional gatherings callable by the chair or any three members. Scheduled dates for the remainder of 2026 include September, October and December, with 2027 dates pending confirmation.
