OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT Work, a cloud‑based AI agent that moves beyond answering questions to orchestrate email, Slack, calendar and code‑repo workflows. Powered by the GPT‑5.6 model, the service pulls context from connected apps and delivers finished documents, spreadsheets, presentations and even live websites. The agent breaks a user‑stated goal into sub‑tasks, then persists in a cloud virtual machine that stays active across devices – a clear departure from competitors that require a local host.

In a brief demo to Reuters, product manager Ty Geri highlighted how the tool can schedule ten simultaneous bug‑bashes, reconcile calendar conflicts and generate churn analyses that previously took months. “It’s a partner, not a replacement,” Geri said, noting the system can adopt a user’s writing style and even display a virtual pet for a lighter touch. Enterprise users gain access to MCP‑based plugins for Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack and GitHub, with multi‑account support on the roadmap. The rollout begins with Pro, Enterprise and Edu tiers, expanding to Plus and Business plans within days – a strategic move to democratize AI power across all paid subscribers. OpenAI’s financial backdrop is striking: the company reports ↑ $25 billion in monthly revenue and a valuation hovering between ↑ $730 billion‑$852 billion, positioning the IPO as potentially the largest tech listing in history. Privacy remains a focal point; OpenAI assures that data accessed from Slack or email stays under user control and is not used to train future models, echoing the firm’s stance from its 2023 Enterprise launch. As rivals Anthropic and Microsoft push their own autonomous agents, OpenAI bets that the combination of a massive consumer base – 900 million weekly users – and broad Plus‑level availability will accelerate enterprise adoption faster than any competitor.
