Anthropic unveiled Claude Tag on Tuesday, embedding its latest Claude Opus 4.8 model directly into Slack as a standing teammate that any user can summon with @Claude. The beta rollout for Claude Enterprise and Team customers swaps the older Claude‑in‑Slack app for a shared agent that can remember context, act without prompting, and coordinate across channels.

Administrators link the agent to a workspace, grant tool access, set token caps, and pick the channels it may inhabit. From there, a simple @Claude tag can trigger a pull‑request, fetch sales figures, or launch a data pipeline; the AI breaks the job into steps, runs the tools, and replies in a threaded message.

Security and Governance Controls

Each deployment lives in an isolated sandbox; memories and data never cross between a sales‑oriented Claude and an engineering‑focused one. Token‑spend limits can be imposed at org or channel level, and a full audit log records every action and the requesting user. Enterprise buyers gain visibility into AI‑driven work without surrendering data sovereignty.

“Our product team now routes the majority of code through Claude Tag,” said Anthropic’s CTO, highlighting internal adoption.

Anthropic reports that ↑ $47 bn in run‑rate revenue and a ↑ $65 bn Series H round underscore the financial firepower behind the push. Competitors are racing to claim the same Slack real‑estate: Salesforce’s revamped Slackbot, OpenAI’s Workspace Agents, Perplexity’s Computer, and Microsoft’s Copilot in Teams. The race reflects a broader shift: employees juggle over 1,000 apps, and the AI that sits where decisions happen captures both workflow stickiness and institutional memory. As firms emerge from the pandemic era, the pressure to embed intelligent assistants in daily communication channels intensifies. Reuters and Bloomberg note that the global agentic AI market could swell to $139 bn by 2034, making Claude Tag a strategic foothold for Anthropic.
