CDC emergency funding powers intensified Ebola response

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced it will draw ↑ $107m from its emergency reserve to bolster containment efforts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, where cases have eclipsed 1,000 individuals.

Officials stress that, despite the outbreak now ranking as the third‑largest on record, the global spill‑over risk remains low. The infusion arrives as the continent readies for the FIFA World Cup, drawing tourists from Canada, Mexico and the United States.

“Rapid deployment of resources is essential to halt transmission,” a CDC spokesperson told Reuters.

Health ministries in both nations have activated cross‑border surveillance, and the World Health Organization continues to monitor the situation, citing the need for swift vaccination campaigns and reinforced laboratory capacity.
