Israel has opened a corridor through the military zone that splits the Gaza Strip, allowing thousands of displaced Palestinians to trek on foot toward Northern Gaza. The move follows a stalled hostage‑release negotiation that finally broke, prompting Israeli officials to ease restrictions.

Northern Gaza foot crossing accelerates civilian return

Families, carrying only what they can bear, stream past shattered neighborhoods, seeking shelter as winter approaches. Humanitarian groups warn that the influx could overwhelm already strained services. UNRWA estimates that ↓ 30,000 people have already arrived in the north, a figure that may swell.

“We are desperate to get home,” one resident told reporters.

The Israeli Defense Forces say security checks remain in place, but the corridor will stay open until further notice. Reuters and AP News continue to monitor the situation.
