Rashida Tlaib Lebanon resolution faces bipartisan defeat

In a stark display of intra‑party friction, the House on Thursday voted ↓ 92-to-↓ 324 to reject Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s Lebanon war powers resolution, which would have ordered President Trump to withdraw all U.S. troops from Lebanon within seven days. Democrats turned on the measure, with 117 voting against it and 91 in favor, while only one Republican supported the bill. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and his leadership team warned that no U.S. service members are currently engaged in combat in Lebanon and pledged support for an alternative resolution that preserves coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces against Hezbollah. The vote highlights a widening rift between progressive members demanding rapid disengagement and centrist Democrats who argue for a calibrated approach.

“We stand with the Lebanese people, their government and the Lebanese Armed Forces in their effort to defeat Hezbollah,”

Jeffries said in a statement released after the tally. The outcome arrives just one day after the chamber passed a similar measure curbing Trump’s ability to act in Iran, a victory credited to months of behind‑the‑scenes negotiation by Democratic leadership. Analysts note that the defeat may embolden hawkish voices in future Middle‑East deliberations. For broader context, see Reuters and AP News.
