Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries pressed Rep. Frederica Wilson (D‑Fla.) on the phone, urging, “You’ve got to come. The numbers are too small“, as Republicans cling to a fragile lead.

“People cannot miss votes,” a senior House Democrat told Axios.

Wilson, 83, confirmed she is recuperating from eye surgery and expects to be back in Washington by next Wednesday.

Unexplained Absence of Rep. Tom Kean Jr.

Republican Tom Kean Jr. (R‑N.J.) has missed two months, citing an undisclosed “personal medical issue.” Speaker Mike Johnson said, “I’ve told him we’re praying for him and need him back as soon as possible,” but offered no further details.

Kean’s campaign continues to fundraise, sending a donor email on Thursday, and he remains the sole Republican on the primary ballot in a district Democrats label a top pickup.

Both Wilson and Kean have signaled they intend to run for re‑election, quashing early speculation of retirement.
