DR Congo Ebola cases surge past ↑ 3,900

The World Health Organization has issued a stark warning as DR Congo Ebola cases edge toward the 4,000 mark, a trajectory that threatens to overwhelm local health infrastructure.

Since the outbreak was declared in mid‑May, the virus has claimed ↓ 1,700 lives, according to WHO data.

Intensified response demanded

WHO spokesperson Dr Sylvie Briand urged an intensified medical effort, citing the deployment of multidisciplinary teams to the most affected provinces.

“We cannot afford a slower pace; every day costs lives,” she told reporters.

Specialised treatment centres have been erected in North Kivu and Ituri, while vaccine trials continue under the oversight of partners such as Reuters and AP News.
