Interceptor shortage leaves Kyiv vulnerable

Ukraine’s air defence is scrambling after a Russian missile ripped through the capital, killing civilians and prompting officials to sound the alarm that the interceptor shortage is now a matter of life and death. Without sufficient Patriot interceptors, the sky over Kyiv resembles an open plain, exposing neighborhoods to relentless barrage. “Every missed launch costs a family,” a senior commander told Reuters, adding that the deficit has risen to ↓ 15% compared with last month.

“We cannot afford to watch another strike unfold while we hunt for missing rockets,” the defense minister warned.

The shortfall stems from delayed deliveries and depleted stockpiles, a problem that echoes logistical strains seen during the pandemic era. Analysts note that each lost interceptor translates into dozens of potential casualties, eroding public confidence in Kyiv’s ability to shield its citizens.
