President Donald Trump erupted in the Oval Office on Wednesday, branding the Senate vote to end Iran war ‘meaningless’ and warning it could hand Tehran a strategic edge.

Senate vote to end Iran war sparks Trump outburst

Asked by Reuters whether the measure would derail ongoing diplomacy, the President replied, ‘We’re doing great in our negotiations with Iran. Then the Senate decides I should stop the war.’

‘So Iran sees that, they think ‘what’s that all about?’ It’s meaningless,’ Trump said.

The confrontation followed a private Capitol lunch where Trump, expecting to push the SAVE America Act, instead faced a bipartisan resolution passed a day earlier that urges him to cease hostilities or seek congressional authorization. Though the resolution lacks enforcement power, it marks the first Senate war‑powers vote on the conflict.

Four GOP senators—Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Rand Paul and Bill Cassidy—joined Democrats in the vote. Cassidy, who lost his primary after Trump backed a challenger, told reporters, ‘I stood and said, ‘You have not told the American people what’s going on.’’ He added he would support a war‑powers vote only after a full briefing.

The Senate move has been framed as a push for greater congressional oversight of a war that has already cost ↓ $2.3 billion and stretched far beyond its original timetable.

Senator Lindsey Graham, a staunch hawk, warned on social media that the vote could “extend the conflict” and called for a revote.

Democrats argue the measure is a necessary check; Trump’s allies warn that public party discord weakens U.S. leverage abroad. ‘Democrats want to lose the war because they’re stupid,’ the President snarled, adding a derisive nickname for the opposition.

Meanwhile, the SAVE America Act remains stalled. Senate Majority Leader John Thune told reporters the bill ‘just isn’t realistic’ without filibuster reform, and Trump has postponed signing a bipartisan housing bill until his agenda moves forward.
