At a modest $49.99, the Nashville‑based startup Tiny Vinyl is rolling out the Tiny Vinyl Player, a 4‑inch turntable that fits in a faux‑leather clamshell and plugs into Target’s 1,800‑plus U.S. locations. The device plays the company’s miniature 4‑inch records—each side holds a single track—at the standard 33 rpm.

Tiny Vinyl Player: engineering a pocket‑sized turntable

Co‑founders Neil Kohler and Jesse Mann spent twelve months redesigning the tone arm, platter and calibration system after suppliers could not provide off‑the‑shelf parts. A custom needle cartridge was sourced, while the platter’s motor was tuned to keep wobble below audible thresholds. Early reviewers noted a faint “twang” on a Creedence record, but Kohler assures the anomaly will diminish with use. The built‑in speakers deliver a tinny but functional stereo output; Bluetooth connectivity lets owners stream to larger cabinets.

“We aimed for a display‑worthy piece, not a hi‑fi studio deck,” Mann said.

The launch coincides with a surge in vinyl sales reported by Reuters, positioning the Tiny Vinyl Player as a novelty for collectors and a low‑cost entry point for new fans. The company also unveiled a matching storage crate and a 4‑by‑4‑inch display frame, expanding the ecosystem around its ↑1 million records pressed to date.
