Taylor Farms Cyclospora Outbreak Linked to Shredded Iceberg Lettuce

Federal officials reiterated on Monday that the microscopic parasite Cyclospora, responsible for a surge of explosive diarrhea across multiple states, continues to be traced back to shredded iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms. The clarification aims to dispel the weekend swirl of confusion sparked by an FDA false‑positive test that the company initially highlighted.

Traceback investigations, conducted jointly by the Food and Drug Administration and the CDC, repeatedly pointed to lettuce harvested in central Mexico and packaged under the Taylor Fresh Foods label. Reuters reported that the investigations “converged on Taylor Farms” after mapping the supply chain from sick patients to farms.

“Our data consistently lead to the same source, confirming the earlier findings,” said an FDA spokesperson.

While the agency’s conclusion narrows the source, many specifics remain opaque due to the limited recall details released by the grower. Health officials estimate the outbreak has affected ↓ 1,200 individuals nationwide, prompting heightened surveillance of produce imports.

Consumers are urged to check product labels for “Taylor Fresh Foods” and to discard any shredded iceberg lettuce that matches the recall description.
