Pearl River Film studio launches joint venture with author Guo Ni

In a move that signals fresh vigor for Chinese genre storytelling, Pearl River Film and Media has partnered with Black Body Interactive and Meng Guo Ji Media to set up a dedicated studio alongside bestselling writer Guo Ni. The alliance pledges to bring ↑ 8 of her youth‑oriented and science‑fiction franchises to screens, leveraging Baidu AI Cloud as a production‑technology partner. Industry watchers note that the collaboration arrives as the sector recovers from a prolonged pandemic slowdown, with streaming platforms hungry for original IP.

“We are committing resources to ensure each adaptation meets global standards,” a Pearl River spokesperson told Reuters.

The first title, slated for a 2027 release, will debut on both theatrical and digital channels, a strategy echoed in recent Bloomberg analyses of Asian media investments.

Strategic implications for the entertainment market

By anchoring AI‑driven workflows, the studio aims to cut post‑production timelines and attract co‑production deals beyond China’s borders.
