Moon phase today: Waxing Gibbous dominates April 27

As the lunar calendar reaches day 10, the Moon phase today is a waxing gibbous, with ↑ 82% of its disc bathed in sunlight. Observers with naked eyes can trace the bright seas of Mare Vaporum, Tranquillitatis and Fecunditatis. Binocular enthusiasts will also pick out Mare Frigoris, Nectaris and the rugged Apennine Mountains, while telescopes reveal the historic Apollo 15 site, Rima Hyginus and the Fra Mauro Highlands.

When does the next full moon arrive?

The next full moon is slated for May 1, marking the first of two in the month. Astronomers note that this timing aligns with the spring equinox, a pattern confirmed by NASA and reported in Reuters.

“The waxing gibbous offers a prime window for lunar observation before the full moon peaks,” a NASA spokesperson said.
