Iran threatens to strike back against the U.S. naval blockade, Tehran’s defense ministry warned Thursday, as diplomatic overtures collapsed.

Iran threatens to strike back as peace talks crumble

The stalemate follows the failure of nuclear negotiations that have endured two decades of pressure and over five weeks of aerial bombardment.

Western analysts, citing Reuters, warn that the blockade could choke critical oil flows, already down ↓ 12% from last month.

“A direct military response is now on Tehran’s radar,” a senior Iranian commander told reporters.

U.S. officials, referencing a statement from the Pentagon, dismissed the threat as “hyperbole,” yet the risk of escalation remains high.
